SIME Vienna takes place on April 28^th 2011 in the building of the old Ottakringer Brewery, right in the hearth of the Viennese District Ottakring, the so-called “Soho of Vienna”.

SIME Vienna will be a one day-track conference focusing on digital opportunities with a global outlook set by international industry thought leaders, entrepreneurs, top executives and creative minds. The “invitation only” audience will be a selected group of approx. 700 execs and opinion leaders out of technology, Internet, media and entertainment.

The format combines short keynotes, provocative panels, and surprise performances mixed with video footage and audience interaction.

The content and speaker selection is based on the SIME format and existing eco-system of international speakers and local stars.

At SIME Vienna, a premier topic will be how technological innovations are driving and disrupting industries. During sessions, keynotes and workshops we will discuss and elaborate best practices and case studies with the SIME audience.

Sorry for the long pause since my last blog posting. I have been quite busy to build my new 3D printer. Actually I have build several of them to test various printing methods and concepts.

Originally I found the RepRap initiatve and I was immediately impressed by this community that has gathered around the idea of building an open source/hardware self replicating 3D printer overall several years. They have started with a simple Cartesian printer long a ago and meanwhile have advanced to a nice generation II (Mendel) printer providing reliable printing capabilities.

I thought it might be valuable for you to share some of my learning and insights from this project of the last year to help you to build your printer with less pain and much faster.

NASA is currently collecting ideas - but only until March 19th. You can either use this chance to publish your ideas at OpenNASA or vote for the ideas that appeal to you. This initiative is part of their Open Government Plan which is quite a nice adoption of the open innovation principle.

At least I recommend to have a look of already existing list of contributions. Some might be quit interesting and will get more attention soon.

Bin gerade auf eine interessante Quelle für Microsoft Home Server Hardware hingewiesen worden – Tranquil PC.

Es gibt dort dedizierte Home Server Angebote bzw. auch einen Server Barebone, der mir für einen Home Server mehr als geeignet erscheint. Beide jeweils mit Intel Atom D510 (dual core) ausgestattet. Der Stromverbrauch ist mit 12 bzw. 21 Watt in der Basis Ausstattung wirklich gering.

I am looking for keywords in the context of cloud computing. Currently everything seems to be part of the cloud computing paradigm but no clear definition or statement about what’s in and what’s out has been made so far.

Soeben hat Microsoft Österreich den Innovation Award 2010 ausgeschrieben. Das ist eine tolle Gelegenheit für Talente in der Softwarebranche ihr Können unter Beweis zu stellen.

Ich finde ja persönlich, dass viel zu wenige österreichische erfolgreiche IT Projekte lokal und international sichtbar sind. Das mag zwar an der österreichischen Bescheidenheit liegen, aber damit verpassen wir auch eine Chance die Bedeutung und die Leistungsfähigkeit der IKT Branche in Österreich darzustellen. IT Wettbewerbe sollen diese Sichtbarkeit schaffen und damit eine Beitrag zum Selbstwertgefühl der Branche leisten.

Ich würde mich freuen, wenn auch in diesem Jahr wieder jede Menge cooler und innovativer Projekte eingereicht werden. Schon die Beiträge im letzten Jahr haben eindeutig gezeigt, dass wir uns auf keinen Fall verstecken brauchen und auch einheimische Unternehmen sensationelles leisten.
